Well, 2021. What a year.
This was the year so many couples decided to hope, love and party harder than anything I have ever seen before. Whilst there was pain and fear, it was always counteracted with so much trust and passion. I am so thankful right now, to be a wedding photographer.
I know you already know what went down last year, but these blog posts are as therapeutic for me as they are (hopefully) entertaining for you, so we should probably touch on it. The restrictions in place meant that weddings were on hold. Our first wedding of the year didn’t take place until May 29th, and even then it was with masks, limited numbers and endless boxes to tick.
The next few months, usually jam-packed with rings and cake, saw only a small handful of intimate gatherings. Then the world re-opened. It was glorious and exhausting as, as an industry, 18 months of postponements all took place in the space of 6 months. If I am brutally honest, it was really really hard. Mentally and physically, my body and mind was just not prepared for what was going to happen, how could it!?
BUT there was SO much joy! And I cannot express that enough. The goodness of humans that we experienced in 2021 was incredible. The hugs were more precious, the tears more emotional, the freedom and unity so needed. They often say you don’t know what you have until it is gone, but as a wedding supplier we all knew what had been lost. But getting it back was better than I ever could have imagined. It has made me relish this industry and the privilege I have of being a wedding photographer.
Alongside the insanity which was July – December, my personal life saw many big changes, some of which were a little last minute. We FINALLY got married, on our third wedding date. It was everything we could have ever hoped for. It was actually really comforting going through that process with so many of our lovely couples who were also postponing. We were all in the same boat, so we held on to each other and I am very grateful for all of you.
We also moved house in August this year, it was a very last-minute decision but 100% the right one. I finally feel like I am in my grown-up home, the home that our family will hopefully grow into. Alongside these two big life events, lots of discussions were had about managing the chaos of weddings coming back in full force, and I deemed it was time to start trusting myself and this business again. I had been scorched by Covid in 2020, but the leap to become a full-time wedding photographer had to be made. Scary…but amazing.
Whatever 2021 held for you, I hope these images bring you joy, emotion and an openness to all of the possibilities 2022 will bring.
I am still taking bookings for 2022 so enquire now to secure your date.
