There is something about outdoor wedding venues. And the South Coast gives you many incredible options.
Maybe is the mix of wild woodlands, rolling hills, costal light that never behaves the same way twice. Or maybe it’s because couples are leaning towards more relaxed, sustainable, nature-led celebrations.
Whatever the reason, an outdoor wedding has a very specific feel. It’s softer, more atmospheric and has to just go with the flow, whatever the weather.
I am going to share some of my favourite venues with outdoor ceremony spaces that I have worked at in the past decade.
Harewood forest is the kind of location that feels completely separate from everything else the moment you turn into the driveway. It is buried deep in the woodland, perfect for couples who want privacy and atmosphere over anything structured or formal. The ceremony space here is incredibly intimate and almost too beautiful too describe, I love hearing guests gasp as the walk in for the first time.
From an outdoor wedding photographers perspective, it is a venue that feels really special, it also has enough cover and options that even if it pours with rain, you still feel like you are partying outside.
This one is perfect for couples who want their wedding to feel like an experience rather than a traditional venue set up. Who like things a little rustic and diy.

Two Woods Estate has a different energy. It’s still very much rooted in nature, but with more structure and space to shape the day.
Its the kind of venue that works brilliantly if you want outdoor surroundings, jaw dropping ceremony space but still a sense of organisation and flow for guests.
With an open meadow that is PERFECT for golden hour, an aisle flanked with redwood trees, a large preparation space and the option for an indoor reception. Weddings at Two Woods Estate work beautifully in all seasons, an important factor that is often overlooked.
Wickham Estate brings a different option to the mix, an outdoor ceremony space, a drinks reception in the courtyard before heading into its beautiful renovated barn for dinner and drinks. Instead of woodland you get open rows of vines stretching into the distance. Think soft rolling countryside views, very Italian, but Hampshire. It feels relaxed, social and sophisticated.
Ceremonies here come with space, nothing feels cramped, it’s just you, your guests and blue skies.
And then there is the golden hour. Because that light across the vineyard is worth planning your timeline around.

Sopley Mill is nestled in the New Forest, and as outdoor wedding venues go, it’s got everything. It mixes historic character with riverside views, willow trees, water meadows and outdoor space. It gives a flexibility that many venues cannot.
You get a natural connection to water and nature, but also the reassurance of strong, custom indoor spaces if the weather shifts.
For a wedding photographer, the outdoor ceremony space is a dream. With the slow pace of the river on either side of the guests. Where reflections, wind and quiet movement makes you take a deep breath.

Each of these listed offers something different.
Harewood Forest is rustic and private
Two Woods Estate brings beautiful woodland and flexibilty
Wickham Estate is open, light and pristine
Sopley Mill brings riverside romance with indoor optionality.
When looking between them it’s important to think about the feeling you want to bring to your day. Wild and exposed. Open and expansive. Relaxed and social. Completely outdoors or a balance of indoor and outdoor comforts
The biggest shift when photographing outdoor weddings is learning to work with what is already there. I am not there to overpower or change the environment, I am there to document it.
Being an outdoor wedding photographer in these kinds of spaces means you are constantly adapting. Navigating the unpredictable and ever changing UK light and weather conditions. But it also comes with the biggest rewards, because no two hours look the same. And honestly that’s what makes them so good.
The best outdoor wedding venue isn’t just one that looks beautiful, it feels right in your gut.
You will know it when you see it. A space where you can imagine your guests relaxing, where the day just makes sense.
If you are planning an outdoor wedding in the UK and want it captured in a natural way, that’s exactly what I aim to do as a Wedding Photographer who is at her most comfortable in nature.
There are so many other venues I could have included in this post so check out
Gorwell Farm, Our Back Garden, Sopley Lake, Leeds Castle, Tournerbury Woods Estate, Southend Barns and Froyle Park
